Day 17

25 November 2023

Today was cold and the ground was once again covered in leaves.

Parts of the woodland trail had flooded and some of the woodland area before the Gnarly Oak had large pools, so I was somewhat limited in the areas I could explore.

ENTRANCE AREA

On the top of a bollard, I saw some small orange Dacrymyces stillatus (Fig. 17.0).

BASECAMP AREA

I found a large, twisted fungus (Fig. 17.1) and some Rickenella fibula on a stump in the Basecamp Loop.

The white blob fungus had gained a red colour and appeared to be Ganoderma applanatum.

There were various decaying bracket fungi on the log circle at Basecamp.

On the Basecamp railway path, I found the orange fungi, Asocoryne sarcoides, Psathyrella piluliformisStereum hirsutum and Agaricus moelleri from previous weeks.

THE DELL

In The Dell, I saw the Tricholoma sulphureum and Laccaria amethystina from previous weeks.

I spotted the group of small white fungi clustered on a twig from Day 15 and a large group of Mycena inclinata (Fig. 17.2).

The Lycogala epidendrum from Day 16 had turned grey.

SANDY GLADE AREA

The Arcyria denudata had returned, and what seemed to be an Ascocoryne sarcoides grew with them.

ENCLOSED AREA

In the Enclosed Area, the Sarcoscypha were still small.

The Typhula juncea from Day 13 had entirely disappeared, but an unidentified corticioid fungus (Fig. 17.3) I had been observing had grown orange round the edges.

I saw the Calycina citrina from Day 15 and the Ascocoryne sarcoides from previous weeks.

YEW GROVE AREA

I found an immature Coprinopsis atramentaria growing from under the bottom of an upturned log and went to check on the Pholiota squarrosa from previous weeks.

OUTPOST AREA

I saw an Armillaria mellea (Fig. 17.4) and more Mycena inclinata (Fig. 17.5).

TRAIL END AREA

Further along the woodland trail, I spotted some unidentified fungi (Fig. 17.6) and a couple of Mycena rosea (Fig. 17.7).

In the same area that I had seen them on Day 16, I saw more Typhula fistulosa.

On the side of the path, I spotted a fuscous Pluteus fungus (Fig. 17.8)

OTHER

Throughout the woodland trail, as on previous days, I found Trichia varia and Ascocoryne sarcoides.
