This vinaceous cluster grew on a birch stump in an anamorphic stage, as opposed to the cup-like teleomorphic stage.

I believe we have seen the teleomorphic stage elsewhere in the reserve woodland, although according to other photos online, these are more of a reddish brown colour, unlike the purple-pink shades I’ve seen at Strumpshaw. [1].
