Ascocoryne sarcoides

I found these wine-red clusters on a mossy stump.

They had upturned, bobbly lower surfaces while the inner surfaces were darker and smooth.

Other photos of the teleomorphic stage of this fungus are more of a reddish brown [1], as opposed to the wine-red colour here, and in the teleomorphic stage it can only be told apart from A. cylichnium microscopically [2].

Throughout the weeks some had disappeared, while others grew larger.
