This slime mould is probably Mucilago crustacea rather than Fuligo septica.

As I understand it M. Crustacea tends to occur low down in grass and on thin stems whereas F. septica tends to occur on rotting wood and plant debris, although M. crustacea has a paler colour, unlinke this specimen.
